Introducing Willowbrook Small Groups
The heart of Christianity is relationship — relationship with the Lord, with our families, and with each other. One of the primary ways these life-giving relationships are developed within our church family is through our church’s Small Groups Ministry. We believe it is important for everyone to find a place to connect and grow within the local church. Small Groups help people do just that.
Small Groups are a place where individuals can safely and effectively develop strong, life-giving connections with others. It is important to have friends — people you know, people you trust. These are the people who will stand with you, pray with you, encourage you and help you grow in your relationship with the Lord. We are the Body of Christ — we are connected in Him — and we all need one another. Small Groups provide the necessary environment for these divine connections to develop and grow. They are a key to our church ministry being real, relevant, and relational.
What kind of Small Groups are offered?
We realize that people in our congregation and community have diverse needs, and are at different stages in life, so we offer different kinds of Small Groups to provide a wide variety of opportunities for people to get connected. The kinds of Small Groups offered vary each term. They can include Bible study groups, teaching groups, prayer groups, discussion groups, special interest groups, recreational groups, and social activity groups. We have all kinds of Small Groups for all kinds of people.
- Our Small Groups are formatted to be short-term and flexible; All the Small Groups being offered this current term are listed in this directory.
We encourage you to review all the groups that are offered and prayerfully consider which group is right for you. We’re sure you’ll find one that will bless you — and fit in with your busy schedule. We encourage everyone who attends Willowbrook Church to make time for Small Groups! You’ll be glad you did!
When and where do Small Groups Meet?
Because Small Groups are such a vital component of the ministry offered at Willowbrook Church, we have Small Groups that meet at the church and various places within the community. Children’s ministry and childcare is offered during the Wednesday night groups at the church and also during those offered on Sunday mornings. Check out this catalog for a complete listing of Small Groups available this fall — included is a description of the group, meeting dates, times, and locations.
Why Small Groups?
1. Small Groups Are Biblical.
Acts 2:42 tells us that the New Testament Christians devoted themselves to teaching, fellowship, the breaking of bread, and prayer. Fellowship was something that was specifically done in homes. The Bible tells us to:
- Bear one another’s burdens (Galatians 6:2)
- Encourage one another (Hebrews 10:24)
- Be concerned for each other’s interests (Philippians 2:4)
- Pray and rejoice with one another (1 Thessalonians 5:16, 17)
2. Small Groups Provide Community.
Bill Hybels, the Senior Pastor of Willow Creek Community Church in Illinois defines “community” as a place where you can:
- Know and be known
- Celebrate and be celebrated
- Serve and be served
- Love and be loved
3. Small Groups Provide Fellowship.
Small Groups provide the time and place to get to know one another better. Our weekend services are great for worship, preaching, teaching, and prayer—but not always the best environment for getting to know other people in the church. Small Groups areopen to everyone and guests are always welcome.
4. Small Groups Provide Ministry.
When someone in a Small Group has a need, the members of the group are quick to respond and support each other. The closeness of the group provides a safe place to express needs to one another, and an opportunity to give and receive ministry. Because the best teachers are those who model the Christian walk for others, the teachings are not only taught during the lesson time, but lived out in life. If you would be interested in leading your own Small Group or hosting a group in your home during the next trimester or at some point in the future, please contact Pastor Brian Bowen at the church office— 281.469.5850 — for more information and an application.
5. Small Groups Provide Spiritual Growth.
In a Small Group, people develop committed and trusting relationships with each other and the Lord as they share their lives and minister to one another’s needs. This is important because Christianity is a lifestyle, not simply a set of teachings—a lifestyle that is learned from another person’s life. Close, personal relationships are essential to this spiritual growth. Small Groups provide the ideal environment where relationships between believers can form, and healthy spiritual growth can occur.
So, join us this fall and get connected! There’s a Small Group available just for you!
